An exhibit of the
works of the late artist, illustrator and animator Don
Pegler of Park Ridge, will be on display at The Kalo Foundation’s
Iannelli Studios Heritage Center, 255 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge,
from Friday, June 15 through Sunday, July 15.
Pegler, a board member of The Kalo Foundation since 2009, is also
being remembered in special scholarships presented through Kalo this
year.
This is an opportunity to see an artist’s development of ideas from
sketches and cartoons to successful ad campaigns and professional
finished products. Pegler began his career as a magazine illustrator,
moving on to five years with a Chicago animation studio before
launching his 40-year career as an illustrator and art director at
Foote, Cone & Belding. At FCB Pegler is best remembered for the
Raid Bugs he created for S.C. Johnson. The Raid bug campaign,
which originated in 1963, is part of advertising history, according to Betsy Foxwell, president of The Kalo
Foundation.
“We were so fortunate to have Don lend his talents and
expertise to Kalo, not only during our campaign to save Iannelli
Studios last year, but also as part of our organization which has
worked so diligently to safeguard the rich artistic legacy of Park Ridge as we seek to
revitalize our community by working cooperatively to promote our
cultural heritage.
