Quick Notes
The Kalo Foundation congratulates Priya Karkhanis (left),
one of three Park Ridge high school students who won the Youth Service Medal from Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart in December.
Priya was honored for her service as a regular volunteer and weekend docent at Kalo's Iannelli Studios Heritage Center.
Park Ridge Mayor David Schmidt (right) introduced the winners at the Dec. 16 City Council meeting.
The other recipients were Ellen Longman and Georgia Loutrianakis.
Ellen, whose grandparents Herb and Barbara Zuegel are active in Kalo,
was a volunteer this year at our Arts and Carafes fundraiser.
We are very grateful to the many teens and young adults who have contributed their talents to Kalo.
While Priya has been one of our longest regular helpers,
we also truly appreciate the many scouts who have helped us update the building and grounds with their Eagle Scout projects,
and groups of students from local schools who take an interest in helping us share community heritage.

A Fantastic Donation!
Ms. Carol Schmidt has donated a reproduction concrete Sprite to the Iannelli Studios Heritage Center.
The original Sprite from which it was cast was designed by Alfonso Iannelli for the Midway Gardens designed by Frank L. Wright.
Ms. Schmidt purchased it from Scott Elliott of the Kelmscott Gallery in 1998.
Scott had this sculpture reproduced from an original Sprite.
She has donated this Sprite so that people visiting the Iannelli Studios Heritage Center
can enjoy seeing a full size, three dimensional likeness of the original design by Alfonso Iannelli and appreciate the greatness of his talent.
As a sidenote, Mr. Mike Grucza, who is restoring our Immaculata Madonna sculpture,
also restored the original sprite sculpture from which this cast was made.
He told us that there were only 4 or 5 of these sprites cast.
We feel very fortunate to have received the donation of this sprite from Ms. Schmidt.
